This week I’ve done something a little different and compiled a list of some great writing competitions for you to enter! Most have a small or no entry fee and they ALL have some great prizes up for grabs including cash, a literary agent or further support! So whether you’re a poet, novelist or screenwriter, there’s something for everyone in the list below. But hurry… Some aren’t open for too much longer! And good luck!
In 2019, the prize will be awarded to outstanding new writing in two categories, short fiction (of up to 2,000 words) and poetry (of up to 60 lines), with 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes in both categories.
The first place winner will receive £500, a year’s FREE membership to The Society of Authors, plus more!
£9 for initial entry, £7 thereafter
Closes June 26th
With Anthony Wilson as the judge and £500 up for grabs, you’re not hard done by for reasons to submit here!
Full guidelines found at the website – by the looks of it entry is free!
Closes 30th June
An international prize for emerging novelists writing for adults or young adults, this competition offers various high cash prizes plus an online place worth £1,800 on Edit Your Novel the Professional Way sponsored by Cornerstones Literary Consultancy.
The entry fee is a little steeper at £25 per novel BUT there is help for low income writers, which I think is great.
Closes 2nd June
Rather more a limited submission window than a competition – but still a great find! – emailing your script to Dark Unicorn could result in your work being performed on stage!
No entry fee
Closes 30th June
Open to women wanting to write for television, Thousand Films are offering the chance to work with industry professionals and a free trip to Edinburgh TV Festival, among other prizes – have a look at the extensive list on the above link.
Free to enter
Closes 30th April – go go go!
